At the time of writing, a barrel of crude oil was selling for $122 with an expected 1 year forecast at $158.99, and the average price of a gallon of U.S. gasoline was at $3.95 ($4.60 per gallon of diesel). Think you have it bad, in Canada the average cost per gallon of gasoline was at $4.96. At $3.95 per gallon to fill up a Honda CR-V (best selling SUV in 2007) that holds approximately 15.3 gallons, it would cost a stifling $60.43.

Furthermore, you would only travel an estimated 306 miles before you would have to fill up once again, costing you a whopping $0.20 per mile verse $.07 per mile five years ago! Those prices are approximately up 270% within the last 5 years with no relief in sight.
